THE TENTH INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
“MUSICAL FIREWORKS IN BADEN – WUERTTEMBERG”

The competition is held by the initiative of the creative organization “Musical Culture of Karlsruhe”, with the support of Mayor, Kulturamta, musical community of Muehlacker, Musical Society of Rostov Region (Russia) and Long Island Conservatory of Music, New York, – for musicians of various specialties and generations – from young, promising talents, college and higher education institutions to professionals with experience in concert organizations in different countries.

For nomination 8 there are no age restrictions, application fee – 60 EUR
For nomination 10 there are no age restrictions, application fee – 80 EUR
Contestant or contestants aspiring to participate in 2 or more categories, pay re-entry application fee at the rate of 50%.
Nominations Solo Singing, Vocal Ensembles have 3 separate subgroups:
1) Academic vocals – in the program 2 or 3 works in accordance with timing for each age group. One aria by any composer, one of the works of German composer listed according to the list, then – by choice. All works are performed in the original language
2) Pop songs – 2 or 3 works in accordance with timing for each age group. The program is free, most clearly revealing the individuality of the performer. All works are performed in the original language. It is allowed to use CD soundtracks or an accompanist. In this category ensemble performances are possible as well.
3) Solo Folk Singing (Folk) – 2 or 3 works according the time limit for each age group. Among them: one piece a cappella, two other pieces of different characters (optional). In this category ensemble performances are possible

*Age category is determined by age of the party on April 15, 2020.
Mandatory condition of the competitive program in all categories is the presence of any work of German or Austrian composer, including contemporary authors. The rest of the program is free, most clearly revealing the creativity and personality of the performer. The program should be performed by heart, strictly in accordance with time limit. Participants in the nomination “Chamber Ensemble” or “Piano Duet” should use music.
The competition will have two rounds for all nominations except #8 (Accompaniment) and #9 (Composition). For all other nominations the first round will serve as qualifying: competitors would provide recordings of two pieces of different character via email or video/file-sharing service like YouTube. The qualifying round will end March 1, 2020. Jury will preview/listen to the recordings and notify the applicants of the results. Based on the Jury’s decisions, the Organizational Committee will issue official invitations for participation in the second tour, to be held April 16-19, 2020. All invitations confirming passing through to the second tour will be sent via email after March 15, 2020.
Each participant provides an accompanist himself.
The competition provides the opening ceremony and the concert, meetings, opportunity for masterclasses with members of the jury and guests and a final gala concert.
Charge for masterclasses is 50 Euros per hour, payable there.
Official language of the competition is English.
* All participants in the nomination of Chamber and Instrumental Ensembles, as well as all the accompanists must bring the original sheet music played on the competition repertoire. Photocopies may be used only as an aid, the availability of the originals is mandatory.
The jury’s decisions are not subject to revision.
Winners of first prizes must play at the final gala concert of the competition “Musical Fireworks in Baden-Wuerttemberg.”
The competitors and accompanists pay the cost of travel, accommodation and meals themselves.
The Organizing Committee will provide to all participants and guests free access to the concerts of the competition, provides classrooms, an acoustic rehearsals at the venue on the day of the competition the contestants’ performances. An additional cultural program can be arranged by the special request of the participants.
Master classes payment, for those wishing to take part, is optional during the competition.

Official language of the Competition is English. All communications from the Organizing Committee will be in English. While we will try to reply to communications in other languages, please do not expect us to be better than Google Translate, both in reading your email and replying to it.
