2023 Rules

THE THIRTEENTH INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
“MUSICAL FIREWORKS IN BADEN – WUERTTEMBERG”

Karlsruhe, (GERMANY)

The competition is held by the initiative of the creative organization “Musical Culture of Karlsruhe”, with the support of International Music Competition Association (Georgia) and Long Island Conservatory of Music, New York, – for musicians of various specialties and generations – from young, promising talents, college and higher education institutions to professionals with experience in concert organizations in different countries.

The 2023 Competition will be online. Please send us the recordings as YouTube links.

Participants should submit their recordings separately for each piece.

Submission deadline is March 15 20, 2023.

Auditions are held in the following nominations:

5.SOLO SINGING, Vocal Ensembles  (independent divisions: academic, folk, pop singing and Vocal – Instrumental Ensembles)

For nomination 8 there are no age restrictions, application fee – 60 EUR
For nomination 10 there are no age restrictions, application fee – 80 EUR

Contestant or contestants aspiring to participate in 2 or more categories, pay re-entry application fee at the rate of 50%.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL APPLICATION FEES ARE NONREFUNDABLE.

Nominations Solo Singing, Vocal Ensembles have 3 separate subgroups:
1) Academic vocals – in the program 2 or 3 works in accordance with timing for each age group. One aria by any composer, one of the works of German composer listed according to the list, then – by choice. All works are performed in the original language

2) Pop songs – 2 or 3 works in accordance with timing for each age group. The program is free, most clearly revealing the individuality of the performer. All works are performed in the original language. It is allowed to use CD soundtracks or an accompanist. In this category ensemble performances are possible as well.
3) Solo Folk Singing (Folk) – 2 or 3 works according the time limit for each age group. Among them: one piece a cappella, two other pieces of different characters (optional). In this category ensemble performances are possible

*Age category is determined by age of the party on April 15, 2023.

COMPETITION PROGRAM

Mandatory condition of the competitive program in all categories is the presence of any work of German or Austrian composer, including contemporary authors. The rest of the program is free, most clearly revealing the creativity and personality of the performer. The program should be performed by heart (except Wind Instrument soloists and all ensembles), strictly in accordance with time limit. Participants in the nomination “Chamber Ensemble” or “Piano Duet” can use sheet music.

All videos must not be filmed from the back of the performer. All videos must remain available on YouTube at least until May 1, 2023.
Please use separate videos for every piece performed. Please note that only YouTube hosted videos would be accepted unless expressly allowed.

Participants in nomination “Composition” must provide (1) a recording (audio only recording are acceptable but should be provided as still-picture video on YouTube featuring photo of the participant and the title of the piece); (2) a PDF file containing score emailed separately to info@musikfeuerwerkbw.org .


Official language of the competition is English.

The jury’s decisions are not subject to revision.

Winners will be expected to allow the Competition use their recordings in the Gala Concert.
